The Different view of Leggings

Different Views(two words) – evaluating a topic from a variety of perspectives. Ex: I wasn’t sure about how real people felt about leggings, so I got a bunch of different views.

Justpants decided to go out and get different views on leggings from girls to guys of all ages.

Ashley R.(17) “they're an essential part of my wardrobe, the way people love jeans is the way I love tights because nothing compares in terms of fashion nor wearablity/comfort. How can anyone dislike leggings? Don’t be a leggings hater, cause then you're hating the one thing that never seems to go together = fashion AND comfort”

Joshua V.(17)”for myself, I would never ever wear them, but for girls well yea their hot when the girls where those mini skirts like Hannah Montana”

Tisha G.(16) “well it depends on where you’re going and how you’re getting there, I only wear leggings under my jeans when I’m taking the bus in cold whether, either than that .. I don’t really wear them”

Kenny S.(20) “I don’t really have an opinion, they’re clothes … if they fit, they fit. But on some girls I would call them lingerie”

Magarre T(49) “I see leggings as clothes to keep you warm, and in some cases they should be worn when a dress is too short to make it less tacky. I only see myself wearing leggings in these instances.”

Arun S(24) “leggings … those are the tight spandex things right?”

Abby (21) “I think they’re nice when worn for the right occasion with proper clothing”

O.J W(19) “For myself … no I’m a guy, but on girls I really don’t mind them”

Faith R(17) “I like them because they’re so easy to wear with anything, they also accentuate my sometimes non-existent bum. They're also convenient and multiple ways, and while looking good they are good for layering in cold weather”

So there you have it, girls and guys of all ages giving you their opinion about leggings, so let’s here your opinions, who do you agree with who don’t you agree with, leave it in the comment section.

The ‘Celebrities of Leggings

Celebrities(noun) – a widely known person(s), some one who is famous, they are widely honoured and acclaimed. Ex: I wore only leggings because I saw celebrities wear them.

One of the most prominent retro looks, leggings, are back and bolder than ever, and celebrities are wasting no time in investing in their pair.

Madonna made her big screen debut in in the 1985 movie Desperately Seeking Susan sporting leggings, and lace gloves and the look just seemed to blast off from there. She also wore leggings in her like a virgin video. She may not have started the look, but she was quite the supporter.

Madonna is not the only celebrity sporting these fashion -savvy clothing items. From left to right we have Billboard's Top Female Artist Beyoncé, next to her the famous for no reason Paris Hilton, to the left of her the adorable country/pop singer Taylor Swift, next to her the gorgeous Caribbean beauty, Rihanna, next to her BEP’s Fergalicious Fergie, to her left the ‘never a dull moment’ never duplicated fashion icon Lady Gaga, to her left the indescribable Lindsay Lohan and ... Kim Kardashian.

The ‘ways to wear it’ of Leggings

Ways to wear it(words) – the various ways to wear one item Ex: She wears the same leggings every single day, but there are so many ways to wear it, no one even notices.

Leggings are definitely NOT boring clothing items, they are probably the most inventive clothing items ever made. They can be paired up and matched up with just about anything, and they can be worn the most casual of events to the most formal.

Ways to wear ‘em

- Pair black leggings underneath a long button-up top or cardigan sweater for a casual look that is comfortable

- For a figure friendly look, choose a dark coloured top, preferably black, with leggings which will ensure a sleek and lean look

- In partly chilly weather, black leggings go well underneath casual denim skirts

- Leggings with a dress or tunic paired with knee length boots

- A long shirt with leggings for a casual not to overdone look

- Brown leggings with an oversized tunic style blouse, worn with a coordinating belt across the waist show off your figure in a flattering way.

- Leggings worn alone with a shirt covering your bottom makes legs look ever so slender.

- Simple black leggings with a long glitzy top worn with high heel pumps.– give a chic club ready look

- & Leggings paired with oh so much more.

A hot topic debate in the leggings world is the issue of “leggings as pants” Some girl’s feel that leggings should only be worn with long t-shirts, dresses and skirts that cover your derrière. Some girl believe that leggings ARE pants as long as they are completely opaque.

Rhea R says, “If u want casual you can do that or you can always play them up...it depends on the style (material) of the leggings and the shirt/upper clothing item(s) of course.” LouLou magazine is completely opposed to the idea of leggings as pants; their editor’s blog is titled: leggings are not pants, people! They conclude their blog with “So for the sake of fashion and for the sake of those who have to walk up the stairs right behind you, cover up your upper upper thighs with a top!”

The Hazards of Leggings

Hazard(noun) – an unavoidable danger or risk, even though often foreseeable, Ex: Never would I have thought there would be hazards to wearing leggings.

Although leggings may be one of the most comfortable and still stylish items on the market, they are also at times hazardous. How can the most convenient clothing item be dangerous you ask, well let’s think about it. Many girls, and also women wear the baby doll dress pairing it with leggings. Even though baby doll dresses are just adorable if worn properly, they are often associated with pregnancy. But the issue of looking pregnant is not the real hazard associated with leggings. “The real issue is the stretchy elastic waist band,” says Kaylie M. This is her legging story.

I guess you could call me a leggings fanatic; I have leggings in almost every colour and every style. I have a pair of leggings to go with every single outfit in my closet. When I buy clothes I think of how they would look with leggings. I’ve got almost the whole collection that American Apparel sells. I’ve bookmarked that site to my phone so that I know whenever a new style of leggings is shipped in, that way I can be the first to have them. I think it’s save to say I wore leggings every day, I wore them to school, I wore them at home, I wore them to dance practice, I wore them to my figure skating classes, they were just the most convenient clothing items ever made. Of course I owned other clothing items, but I hardly wore ‘em, for me it was all about the leggings. One day I decided to wear of my dark blue skinny jeans, and to my surprise they didn’t fit. They stopped right at my thighs, and I thought maybe it was just that one pair, but turns out NONE of my jeans fit me. I went to the store to buy new jeans that were a size bigger, and that was when I found out I had gone from a size zero to a size five without even noticing. All the times I was wearing leggings I never watched my weight because they just fit like a dream.

Kaylie M. doesn’t think people should stop wearing leggings, but they should just balance them out with regular pants and jeans. Because this is the worst way to unknowingly let yourself go.

The Comeback of Leggings;

Comeback(noun) – a return to a former higher rank, popularity, position, prosperity, etc.: Ex: I kept all my leggings from the 80s, and now I’m just waiting for them to make a comeback.

Leggings began reappearing in the world of fashion in 2005. They came back at Capri length being worth with mini skirts and baby doll dresses. By 2006, they became so popular that woman of all ages began wearing them with almost every type of clothing. The rule of fashion is “if you wore the trend once, don’t wear it a second time” but for leggings there is a loop hole to that rule, “If you wore the trend once, don’t wear it the same way the second time.” In the 80s this trend was worn in a funky way with big hair, leather jackets, big earrings, and high heels. The look was meant to come off as sexy, but many would agree it was a little provocative.

The leggings haven’t come back to fashion the same way, they’ve reinvented themselves. This time they’re being worn with dresses, skirts, and tunics. There are a variety of reasons women have RE-adopted this fashion trend. Leggings come in handy when your skirt or dress is a little too short, or if it’s a little cold outside, and the most convenient reason, if you haven’t shaved your legs. Leggings have become almost an essential part of a woman’s wardrobe.

Contrary to belief, leggings haven’t only made a comeback from women, at the Marni Men's show during the Fall 2007 Fashion Week, outfits with leggings designed solely for men were introduced.

The History of Leggings:

Leggings(noun) - form fitting trousers that extend from the waist to the ankle, also commonly referred to as tights. Ex: That girl is styling and comfortable in those leather leggings.

Leggings have become a popular fashion trend, especially in the last three years. These, comfortable, practical, warm, form flattering, and easy to wear clothing items have become a must have item in every woman’s (and also men’s) wardrobe. This fashionably successful trend has not recently been started, but can date all the way back to the late 1800s. The first known time leggings were worn was from the 14th to 16th century, they were worm for warmth and protection. They were later worn by soldiers to protect the lower area of their legs, to keep dirt, sand and mud from entering their shoes; they also used them as a measure of ankle support. In the late 1970s, the fashion designer Patricia Field claimed that she was responsible for the fashion trend of leggings starting. Leggings did not actually become a popular trend until the 1980s when women began wearing them as gym-styled street wear. They began outselling jeans in the majority of the United States, this fashion craze ended in the late 1990s.
